However, from a long-term perspective this was not the best option for the company. We all recognized that we did not want to be in the code maintenance business, but we had no choice given how far the program was in its life cycle. The major lesson learned from this program was that we had to have a better gauge of the stability of the vendor company before contracting to use its products.
