They’ll also keep you full a long time! ) to think in terms of healthy eating and healthy movement choices rather than diets and exercise, girls are under a lot of pressure to be slender and many girls are very afraid of the “F” word: fat. Television and movies don’t do a good job in showing girls the range of healthy body types that are out there. If you only get your body image from the media, you might think that every girl is tall and slender.

Use hair care products made specifically for your type of hair. Different hair textures, especially, need different grooming products. Check labels or ask for help at the drug store. The place where you get your hair cut might have suggestions too, but keep in mind that products bought in the hair salon are almost always more expensive than products bought anywhere else. Hair can’t take the heat. Chemical processes (like perms, either to straighten or to curl, or coloring), and processes where you apply a lot of heat to your hair (like blow-drying) damage your hair and make it harder to take care of it in the long term.

And there are books like this one, as well as internet sites, where you can find lots of helpful information about your changing body and your changing life. It’s important to remember, however, that you are the expert on your own life. No one can know you, and your body, like you do. This special time in your life is a great time to learn to listen to yourself and to your body and pay special attention to what it has to say. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
